Campesino X: Issue 1 (2004)(zine)

Description

Campesino X was created in 2004 and this was the only issue every created. It was born out of the wreckage of a recession and the toils of poverty in Ontario. It was made as an experiment for writers to rally around. But because of very early financial problems for the editor, this zine had not manifested past this initial stage. It was thronged to the tatters of an old ‘projects box.’

The angle of this issue was to gather what was on the mind of the people; to show their lives and endeavors.
This magazine does not have a particular bend. These are just the stories that were going on in the lives of these individuals at the time. Some had been working at their art form for many years. Some just dabbled.

It includes photography (Jose C. Sarmento, David Mendes and James Crescitelli), poetry (Jason Gallagher, Mike Robillard and Denis Robillard) non-fiction short stories (Toby Boyle and James Crescitelli), book reviews (Christopher Shoust, Denis Robillard and Matt Riley), short fiction (Michael Ongena) and illustrations (Peter Egidio).

Books reviewed: Queer (William Burroughs), A Penny Dreadful (Gustav Morin), $30 Film School (Michael Dean), The Poverty Wall (Ian Adams) and The Voice of the Butterfly (John Nichols).
