Valentine’s Day was a special day for many I am sure. At Lost Telegram Press, it was special for us too as another talented author joined the group: Steven Mayoff.
Mayoff calls Prince Edward Island home today, although he was born in Montreal, Quebec and the experience and enthusiasm that he will bring to the group, will benefit all in the long run. Lost Telegram Press is trying to build a family of writers that can feed off of each other artistically and work together to better as well as build each other’s careers.
Mayoff has to his publishing credits: two novels (Our Lady of Steerage, 2015 and The Island Gospel According to Samson Grief, 2023), one short story collection (Fatted Calf Blues, 2009), one chapbook (Leonard’s Flat, 2018) and one book of poetry (Swinging Between Water and Stone, 2025).
Steven’s screenplay The Dim Sum Of Its Parts was the winner of the 2009 WILDsound One-Page Screenplay Contest. His poetry cycle Youkali Poems won second place at the 2006 Atlantic Writing Competition. His story Mariasse won the 2003 David Adams Richards Prize for a portion of novel. Swingstep, his musical also won the 2000 Dora Mavor Moore Award Outstanding New Musical nomination as lyricist. Fatted Calf Blues, his short story collection, won the 2010 PEI Book Award for Fiction, was shortlisted for 2010 ReLit Award and was a Top 5 Finalist 2011 CBC Cross-County Bookshelf.
His novel, which will be released by Lost Telegram Press in 2027 is called At the Mercy of Our Muses: two novellas. It has elements that romance lovers will enjoy. It has elements that visual artists and writers will respect. It also has some scenes that erotic readers will be titillated by. It is a superb fiction and we cannot wait to show it to you.
